“Detectivesque” is the new album from Sexy Bicycle, the solo project of Georgian singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Nika Elia. This album will be released in three parts – three EPs with three songs each – with the first three songs coming out on September 3rd.

Inspired by the feelings he got when catching up with an old friend and couldn’t get a thing out of her because she was stoned; mixed in with the lack of drugs yet being visited by certain fantasies, like a dwarf offering a box and promising it contains the most valuable thing for his inner self.

This, along with the search of a new soundstyle with 70’s retro vibes reinforced with a subtle trombone breeze, funky-soul basslines and the usual psychedelic guitar solos without forgetting the characteristic choppy rhythms, syncopated drums and catchy in its whole, gave birth to these four refreshing songs.

For the making of "Detectivesque", Nika limited himself by creating beats using only sampled drums and playing basslines with a tuned-down guitar. Once the rhythm was set, he began to introduce voice melodies and play with some words until he found the most honest ones to express his ideas as he would do naturally.

The next step was to add keyboards and ask some friends to play the melodies he had in his mind, always letting them feel free to come up with variations or contribute with something that they might think could be interesting for the song. This process ended in summer of 2019.

In February 2020, after several rehearsals Nika took drummer Pol to Jordi Casadesus’ studio in Centelles to record organic drums that would later be used to strengthen some of what had already been digitally recorded.
Bass, percussion, mellotron and Space Echo were recorded and added to get some specific sounds, so the songs would be ready for mixing.

Nika produced and pre-mixed the four songs that form the EP, and by the middle of April, Panxi was mixing and everything was coming together despite the outbreak of Covid19.

This EP will be released on 200 limited, handcrafted copies of 7” vinyl which Nika will be silkscreening himself, so they'll be pretty unique.
